02 PERMANENT MAGNET GENERATORS (PMG)
RADIO-ENERGIE is a leading supplier of permanent magnet generators (PMGs) to major European manufacturers of large generators and synchronous motors. These PMGs have been developed to provide excitation power supplies for the excitation field systems of large rotating machines operating at continuous speeds up to a maximum of 5000 rpm.
RADIO-ENERGIE has produced permanent magnet generators for a variety of applications, including oil, gas and hydropower. Our PMGs can be used as stand-alone power supplies or as brushless excitation power supplies for the field system of large rotating machines. The magnets used in our PMGs can be either AlNiCo or rare-earth Samarium Cobalt. Rare-earth magnets are now our preferred choice, as they enable us to reduce the size of the PMG and are extremely resistant to demagnetization in the event of a short-circuit fault.
We have manufactured PMGs for large multinational companies, such as GE, ABB and NIDEC, as well as for smaller companies requiring more customized solutions. All our PMGs are designed and manufactured according to customer requirements, operating at a specified output power, voltage, power factor and speed.
Our PMGs are impregnated with epoxy resin. Class F insulation is used as standard in all our PMGs, which can withstand temperatures up to 155°C, with higher-temperature insulation available if required.
Our PMGs can be supplied either fully enclosed, as separate rotor and stator, or as a floating hollow-shaft assembly. Mountings available include base, skirt, flange or shaft-mounted coupling and, in the case of a fully enclosed PMG, we will work to the desired IP rating.
All our PMGs undergo dynamic balancing and dynamic and static testing. Standard tests include open circuit and load voltage checks, overspeed, overvoltage and flash tests, as well as insulation and winding resistance measurements, with type tests available on request.
